HKU Walking Challenge Privacy Policy Statement
The University of Hong Kong is committed to meeting internationally-recognized standards of personal data privacy protection, in compliance with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. In doing so, it will be ensured that the University’s staff comply with the strictest standards of security and confidentiality.
Information we collect
Health Kit information: You have an option to permit us to import health data into the App from third-party services such as Google Fit. Permitting us to access third party information can help you to maximize your App experience, and we will handle any such third-party information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Daily step data within the competition period will be documented and stored in our database for competitive purposes, exclusively accessible to your teammates in the competition. External viewers will only have access to the cumulative steps you have taken throughout the entire competition timeframe, provided you have entered the public leaderboard.
General information: Email address is necessary for you to register an account for the HKU Walking Challenge. However, other personal information such as Name, Age, Sex, Height, Weight, Hall and Departmental information are all optional.
Under the Ordinance, individuals have the right to request access to and correction of their personal data held by the application HKU Walking Challenge. Should you wish to access or correct your personal information held by us, please present your enquiry or request by e-mail to ExerciseIsMedicine@hku.hk;.* Data access request should be made by completing and submitting the Data Access Request Form. A reasonable fee will be charged for the processing of any data access request.
We guarantee that your personal information will only be used for contacting you and improving our services. We will never use such information (e.g. your name and email address) for any other purposes, such as to further market our products, or to disclose your personal information to a third party for commercial gains.
*If we decide to update our privacy policy, we will contact users via Email. If we materially change the way in which we process your personal data, we will provide you with prior notice, or where legally required, request your consent prior to implementing such changes. We strongly encourage you to read our privacy policy and keep yourself informed of our practices.
