The University of Hong Kong’s Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE), in collaboration with the University Health Service (UHS), proudly announces the successful completion of the Exercise is Medicine (EIM) Month 2025, a month-long initiative held throughout May to promote physical activity as a vital component of health and well-being across the HKU community.

As the first EIM Gold Level Campus in Hong Kong, HKU continues to lead in fostering a culture of health through its Exercise is Medicine on Campus (EIM-OC) initiative, a global effort championed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The EIM Month 2025, theme of "Sit Less Move More", in May of 2025 highlighted the critical need to address sedentary lifestyles, which are increasingly linked to health challenges such as obesity, heart disease, and mental exhaustion. The initiative inspired participants to adopt simple, sustainable habits like taking standing breaks, short walks, or active commuting to incorporate movement into their everyday lives.

Programme Highlights

Fitness Fun Day: EIM opening ceremony, to promote active, healthy lifestyles for HKU staff, students, and community members. Key features included physical challenges, educational booths on exercise benefits, and interaction with wellness experts. Attendees received practical tips for balanced living and learned about HKU’s health resources, launching a month-long focus on movement and well-being.

Weekly Training Classes: Two fitness sessions per week were held at HKU’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the HKU B-Active and CSE Active Fitness Centres. These classes, led by qualified instructors, catered to participants of all fitness levels, offering activities such as strength training, core stability workouts, yoga and pilates.

Weekly Knowledge Bits: Each week, the CSE shared engaging "Knowledge Bits" to educate the HKU community on the benefits of physical activity. These bite-sized insights covered topics such as exercise for chronic disease prevention, bone health through weight-bearing exercises, and strategies for maintaining an active lifestyle. The Knowledge Bits were shared via the EIM website and social media, reaching a wide audience and encouraging practical health improvements.

Building on the success of EIM Month 2025, the Active Health Clinic at HKU B-Active will continue offering Faculty Health and Fitness Assessment, and Personal Fitness Guidance, empowering students and staff with the tools to maintain active lifestyles year-round.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants for their enthusiastic attendance and commitment to health. Thank you for your enthusiastic participation! See you again in October!
