The 10th Anniversary of Exercise is Medicine (EIM) at HKU was launched on Friday, 2 October 2026, with a lively Opening Day celebration at Sun Yat-sen Place, also known as Happy Park. The event brought together HKU students, staff, colleagues and friends to celebrate a decade of promoting physical activity, preventive health and scientific wellness across the University community.

Over the past 10 years, EIM at HKU has grown from a campus initiative into a thriving movement, connecting evidence-based exercise with everyday life and encouraging members of the HKU community to take meaningful steps towards healthier, more active living.

Celebrating a Decade of Wellness at HKU

The Opening Ceremony marked an important milestone for EIM at HKU, recognising 10 years of effort to make movement more accessible, engaging and relevant to daily campus life. The celebration highlighted the programme’s continued mission to empower individuals through physical activity and to build a lasting culture of wellness at HKU.

As Dr Michael Tse, Director of CSE, noted: “Over the past decade, EIM at HKU has shown how movement can become part of everyday university life. This anniversary is a celebration of our community’s commitment to health, wellbeing and active living.”

The event was attended by members of the University’s senior leadership, as well as key representatives from partners, faculties and departments across HKU. Their presence reflected the University’s continued support for health promotion, student and staff wellbeing, and the integration of active living into the HKU experience.

Fitness Challenges Bring the Community Together

Following the ceremony, participants took part in a series of fun and energetic fitness booths designed to challenge different aspects of physical performance. From friendly competition to shared encouragement, the activity booths created a warm and vibrant atmosphere, inviting students and staff to move together and celebrate wellness as a community.

Continuing the Legacy in Motion

The 10th Anniversary Opening Day was not only a celebration of past achievements, but also a reminder of the role that daily movement can play in long-term health. Through EIM at HKU, exercise continues to be promoted as an important part of preventive health, personal wellbeing and community connection.

As EIM at HKU enters its next chapter, students and staff are encouraged to continue participating in upcoming EIM activities and to make physical activity a regular part of campus life. Together, the HKU community can continue building a healthier, more active future — keeping the legacy in motion.
