Halloween Mini Marathon: Ghostbusters Proton-Paced Portal Pursuit!

The 5th Annual Halloween Mini-Marathon took place on October 31 at the Stanley Ho Sports Centre, organized by the Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE) at HKU as the grand finale of the Exercise is Medicine Month in October 2025.

Participants arrived at the Stanley Ho Sports Centre adorned in a delightful array of costumes, including Ghostbusters, Green Fairy, street fighter chun li, the group of . Our objective was not on competing against the clock but on the collective goal of completing the full marathon distance (42.2 kilometers) or a total of 105½ laps. This year's event witnessed an even more remarkable accomplishment, with a total of 1280 laps achieved, 512kms or 12 marathons, showcasing the active involvement of the over 100 participants.

Seeing such an enthusiastic crowd—staff, students, families, and friends—uniting to stay active for both body and mind while having a blast truly captures the heart of the EIM message we champion. It’s a vivid reminder that movement isn’t just about fitness; it’s about joy, connection, and well-being. Events like this bring our community together in the most spirited way, proving that getting active can be fun, inclusive, and deeply rewarding for everyone involved.”

The Halloween Mini-Marathon was a part of the Exercise is Medicine on Campus Month, a global initiative that encourages universities and colleges to promote physical activity as a crucial indicator of health and well-being. The University of Hong Kong, having initiated this programme in 2016, became the first Asian university to receive the Gold EIM on Campus Recognition for their efforts in enhancing the health and well-being of the HKU community.
